What is coir?

Coir is a natural and eco-friendly product that is extracted from the fibrous, outer husks of coconuts. In fact, this material has been in use for centuries to make products such as rope. Also known as coco, this tough material is ideal for use in doormats because of its ability to scrape away dirt, mud, rocks, and other debris from footwear. It has a rough texture and is perfect for outdoor use, as it strongly resists both moisture and UV-rays.

How long should I expect my new doormat to last?

All of our products are designed to last for long periods of time. There is no reliable way to determine the exact lifespan of each individual doormat. It really depends on how much wear you intend to put the mat through. With that in mind, placing doormats in areas that see high volumes of foot traffic often wears down a mat faster than placing them in areas that do not see very high levels of foot traffic.

Do coir or rubber doormats last longer outdoors?

Here’s the simple answer: both coir and rubber doormats last for a very long time outdoors. Coir is ideal for use in outdoor environments because it is a naturally occurring material that is evolutionarily built to withstand highly hostile conditions. Coconuts, the source of coir fibers, are genetically imbued with qualities that make coir extremely durable. The coir used to produce our doormats is no different: Coir’s natural qualities, such as moisture, UV, and ozone resistances, make our coir doormats last for extremely long periods of times in the outdoors. Furthermore, since we also use rubber in many of our doormats, we make sure to use only types of rubbers that last for extended periods of time exposed to the elements. Whenever we can—which is often—we use recycled or reclaimed rubber material for our doormats. Recycled or reclaimed rubber is sourced from discarded vehicle-tires. This fact makes recycled and reclaimed rubber products extremely appealing—considering the fact that car tires are designed to withstand some of the toughest outdoor conditions. When these tires are shredded down and reprocessed into new rubber products, they imbue the new products with their UV, ozone, and moisture resistances. In the case of CoirMat.com’s products, discarded car-tires are repurposed into doormat components—which makes our rubber doormat products highly capable of withstanding a wide variety of outdoor conditions.

Where should I use a carpet mat?

A carpet mat is best used indoors. Ideal locations for our carpet mats include indoor entryways and hallways in homes, offices, showrooms, restaurants, and more. Generally, carpet mats are better suited for indoor applications than they are for outdoor ones. The reason for this is the fact that polypropylene fibers, the kind of fibers out of which our carpet mats’ surfaces are made, are not designed for prolonged exposure to the elements. However, these fibers are well suited for indoor door-matting applications because of how abrasion resistant and water absorbent they are.

Are your doormats eco-friendly?

Yes, we are proud to say that our doormats are eco-friendly products! Our vast inventory of doormats is filled with products made of environmentally-friendly materials. Coir is a naturally occurring resource, derived through eco-friendly processes that minimally affect the environment. Thus, 100% coir products are completely eco-friendly—they do not only protect your floors, but they also protect our planet. When it comes to our products which include rubber, we use recycled or reclaimed rubber materials whenever we can. This practice is core to our company philosophy; protecting the planet is a priority that we all share. The recycled or reclaimed rubbers that we utilize are eco-friendly because they are derived from discarded vehicle-tires. Since they are non-biodegradable, discarded car-tires are typically destined for landfills. However, when discarded car-tires are repurposed into rubber-flooring products—such as doormats—their lifetimes are extended, reducing the amount of time they will spend in landfills.

Where are your products made?

A large majority of our doormats are made either in southern India or in Sri Lanka. The specific manufacturing location of an individual product can be found on the product’s specifications sheet—a document which details a product’s essential facts, and which is attached to each product’s page in a PDF format for your viewing. The coir we use is sourced from plantations that are dedicated to growing this material. And the rubber in our products made of natural rubber is sourced from places that similarly specialize in the material in question. Take a look at the following videos to see how these materials are made:

Are any of your doormats handmade?

Some of our doormats are handmade products, while others are made with the assistance of machines. For example, our boot-scraper mats are handmade. The stencil-painted designs on our doormats are also done by hand. If a doormat has rubber in its composition, it is made with the help of machines that perform the rubber molding process.

Can I get a discount for buying multiple units?

Yes! We offer volume discounts for extremely large orders. The discount rates, correlating with volume purchased, can be found on a product’s page. Volume discounts are our way of bringing high quantities of doormats to large buyers at the most cost-effective prices. For example, if you are a landlord who manages multiple apartment complexes, it may be prudent for you to purchase doormats in volume-discounted quantities since you will likely need a high number of doormats. For customers looking to purchase multiple doormats but do not quite meet the threshold to receive volume discounts, we offer a vast number of doormat kits—each of which include several different door-matting products at a packaged price. In either case, it may be possible for you to get a discount for buying multiple units. Browse our selection of products to discover products that meet your price criterion.

Can I buy wholesale?

Yes, we have wholesale pricing options available. We know that there are a large number of businesses out there; many of which need doormats as a part of their doormat product selection. We make our high-quality products available to commercial outlets such as retail stores, online storefronts, real-estate firms, design firms, and more. We encourage you to contact our Business Development Team for more detailed information regarding our wholesale rates.

Can I order my own designs?

Unfortunately, we do not provide any custom design services. However, the designs we choose for our doormats reflect a wide variety of different tastes. The market is diverse, and we like to have as many aesthetic preferences reflected in our inventory as possible. We are also constantly adding to our product line because of how highly variable design-trends tend to be. This is why we encourage you to keep checking back with us to see if any new doormat suits your preferences.

Do your rubber products smell?

Unfortunately, any product made of rubber is going to smell like rubber. However, in many cases, the smell of rubber naturally lessens over time. After extended use, your rubber product may lose its rubbery scent. If you intend to use one of our many rubber products within an enclosed space, please note that the closedness of the space may inhibit the rate at which the rubber product’s smell diminishes. Notwithstanding, our team of rubber and coir experts is equipped with the expertise to help guide you toward a rubber product that emits as little of a smell as possible. Some of our rubber products naturally produce less of a scent than others. And some of our rubber products are infused with artificial scents that help mask their rubbery smells. Simply reach out, and we can help you find a product that best matches your needs.

Most small packages are shipped via FedEx Ground. If our order requires express delivery, we will ship it to you using FedEx Express Air Services (one-day, two-day, or three-day). Heavy or oversized shipments (150 pounds or more) are shipped nationwide via preferred carriers (Dotline Transportation, Custom Freight, Yellow Freight, or Old Dominion). Please note: next-day or same-day deliveries may be available for some shipments if they are shipped using one of the aforementioned freight carriers. In these cases, one of our Experts will contact you with a quote prior to the shipment of your order.

Any Rubber-Cal shipment is insured for the full value of the product.
